by- ahmed wasfy

Today, the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University witnessed a distinguished academic event as Eng. Omar Abdelrahman Suleiman El-Roubi, a researcher in the Department of Architecture, presented his pre-registration PhD thesis titled:
“Thermal Performance Evaluation of Phase Change Materials-Enhanced Glazing Systems in Egypt.”

The thesis defense took place as part of the requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Architectural Engineering.

The session was attended by a number of prominent academic figures, most notably Prof. Dr. Maha Fouad, Chairperson of the Future Builders International Academy in Egypt, Morocco, and the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Fouad expressed her strong support for research efforts focused on sustainable development and energy efficiency in architecture and construction.

Supervised by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Moamen Gamal El-Din Afifi, the session also included Prof. Dr. Medhat Mohamed El-Shazly (Internal Examiner) and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Atef Fagal (External Examiner) from Ain Shams University.

In his research, Eng. Omar El-Roubi explored the use of Phase Change Materials (PCMs) in glazing systems as a means of improving thermal insulation in buildings under the climatic conditions of Egypt. The study presents a forward-thinking architectural solution to reduce indoor heat gain and energy consumption, aiming to enhance thermal comfort for residents and promote sustainable design strategies across the region.

This work marks a valuable contribution to the evolving field of smart materials and their integration into energy-efficient building technologies.
