It has the power to put you on top of the clouds or in a deep, dark hole. (And no matter how much experience we gain, it seems like we\u2019re all still trying to figure it out.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">When you are in the midst of deep love, when the world is filled with rainbows and butterflies, everything your partner does is right. This is where the term \u201cLove is blind\u201d comes from \u2014 you are \u201cblinded\u201d by love and cannot see any of your lover\u2019s flaws.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">In this heightened state of attraction, we tend to give our partners more leeway. There\u2019s more space for them to make mistakes because the rules we have created within the relationships are different, and we have fewer of them. And in many cases, you don\u2019t have any rules \u2014 you\u2019re just thrilled to be in the same room with them, to have the opportunity to make them happy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Here\u2019s a train of thought of someone who is loving from the heart:<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><em><big>\u201cWhat would make him happy? What would turn him on? I am going to the ends of the earth and I\u2019m going to find out \u2014 and I\u2019m going to have fun doing it. I\u2019m going to have fun learning, exploring all kinds of things; I\u2019m going to feel alive, I\u2019m going to make it happen.\u201d<\/big><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Where are the <strong>doubts<\/strong>? Where are the <strong>rules<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Where is the <strong>measuring<\/strong> of how much you are doing for your partner, vs. how much they are doing for you? That\u2019s right \u2014 it\u2019s not there. When you are loving from your heart, in the \u201cblind\u201d stage, you don\u2019t think about how much you are giving, and you don\u2019t create ideals of what your partner should be and compare it to what they are.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">So what brings that stage to an end? <strong>Why do you stop loving from the heart?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The answer is: Your head takes over. Logic is a valuable intellectual trait, but in the realm of relationships, it can be destructive. Here is the train of thought of someone who is in their head:<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><em><big>\u201cI wonder what he\u2019s going to do for me for my birthday. I planned such a great day for his, and he loved it. But he hasn\u2019t even mentioned it yet this year. What if he forgets completely? Like he forgot to congratulate me when I got that promotion. Or like how he forgets even the little things, like the fact that I don\u2019t like ginger. How can I have a partner who doesn\u2019t know I don\u2019t like ginger??!!\u201d<\/big><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">At this point, the rules that you\u2019ve made up in your head about how a partner should behave, what your relationship should be like and what you deserve completely overtake all of the positive emotions you had before. Things our partner does are no longer thrilling; the flaws are no longer \u201ccute,\u201d and they can even become an annoyance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">And when we let the little things start to stack up, we start feeling <strong>resentment<\/strong>, or built-up tension. That can escalate into a series of <strong>rejections<\/strong> that become toxic, or abrasive \u2014 and ultimately simmers into a general feeling of <strong>repression<\/strong>, or learned helplessness, where you lower your expectations so much that you no longer feel any needs being met in the relationship, so you turn to other vehicles, like your work, children, friend group or hobbies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Sounds terrible, right?
