It carries with it an invisible force that can make it feel like an overly oppressive, or even a dirty word. It\u2019s no wonder so many people are uncomfortable saying it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">But the truth is, when you say \u201cno,\u201d you\u2019re not saying \u201cI hate you,\u201d and you\u2019re not insulting someone, you\u2019re simply exercising your right to say \u201cno.\u201d Because it is a right, not a privilege.<\/p>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/tr-web-v2\/images\/20\/27\/7249ab2f-e993-4f0d-a1cb-b9c1f5ba342d\/7040012027_d.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">So, why do so many people have an issue telling someone else \u201cno\u201d? The truth lies not in the obvious \u2014 a need please \u2014 but rather in the fact that some of us have the tendency to put others\u2019 objectives above our own. Our inability to say \u201cno\u201d just to reassure and make someone else feel comfortable is not only unfair to ourselves, but it can be unfair to the other person as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Disregarding our own feelings and needs seems like the unselfish thing to do. After all, we are taught to give, not take. But, just because it\u2019s easier to say \u201cyes\u201d doesn\u2019t mean we should. What if \u201cno\u201d would result in a better outcome for both parties? Saying \u201cno\u201d doesn\u2019t have to mean you\u2019re being self-serving.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Of course, if a hard \u201cno\u201d is still too difficult to say, there are other ways to state it. For instance: \u201cI choose not to,\u201d \u201cnot at this time\u201d and \u201cthat will not work for me\u201d are all different ways to say \u201cno.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">In the end, remember, it\u2019s your right to say no. It doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019re exercising some sort of immutable ego trip.
