Abstract:

The Intermolecular Coulomb Electron Capture (ICEC) process in a Quantum Dot (QD) pair allows an incoming electron to be captured by one Quantum Dot in an excited state while its Coulomb interaction with a bound electron from the neighbouring QD permits the captured electron to relax into the ground state by releasing the other electron into the continuum, thus reducing the energy of the QD pair. In this study, the ICEC in the previously proposed model system [1] is being successfully examined on its geometrical constraints and dependencies with the aid of the Multi-Configurational Time-Dependent Hartree-Fock (MCTDH) method [2] to firstly, allow the prediction of optimal geometrical parameters for an experimental realization of the system; and secondly, to underline that the ICEC process proves to be a potential candidate for future energy- selective devices [3].
